Now that you have been admitted to Graduate School, the following next steps. Make sure you proceed to advising first, since it is an important step in your success as a graduate student.
Academic Advising
- Meet with your assigned graduate academic advisor. How do I find my academic advisor? Visit the following link, Who Is My Advisor? to access contact information for your advisor or call your department chair to receive your assigned advisor.
- Review your degree requirements in go.alcorn.edu. Log in under the student tab, enter your login information to view your degree plan.
- Discuss transfer credits, prerequisites, and course sequencing.
- Develop a schedule for your first semester and clarify academic expectations
Course Registration
- Access the student portal, Banner Online Services, and review available courses.
- Register for required and recommended first-semester classes. How to proceed if the course is full? Check with your department chair to discuss if you can be added to the course.
- Verify registration holds, prerequisites, and course availability.
- Confirm your final course schedule and class locations or online access
Payment of Tuition and Fees to Complete Registration
- Go to Banner Online Services on the Alcorn Homepage. Login to review your tuition and fee statement by logging in to your student account.
- Apply financial aid, scholarships, employer reimbursement, or payment plans if applicable.
- Submit payment by the stated deadline to complete registration. Go to the Academics link on the taskbar on the Alcorn homepage and click the link on the taskbar for Academics. Find the academic calendar to check payment of fees deadline and other deadlines.
- Verify that your registration status is complete and that no balance remains outstanding.
Classes Begin
- Review course syllabi and required textbooks/materials.
- Set up and familiarize yourself with the learning management system.
- Attend all first-week classes and orientations.
- Introduce yourself to instructors and classmates and confirm important course deadlines.
