Circulation
The Circulation Department is located adjacent to the entrance to the J.D. Boyd Library. This department is responsible for checking out materials from the circulating collections of the Library, for checking borrowed materials back in, and for re-shelving materials. Course reserve materials, including books and phototcopied articles, are housed at the Circulation Desk.
Borrowing Privileges
Students may borrow materials only when they are actively enrolled in school or conducting research through the University as determined by the Registrar. Alcorn State University students, faculty, and staff should obtain an ID (Gold Card) from the Business Office.

Students are allowed to check out a maximum of 25 (twenty-five) books. Faculty and staff are not limited to the number of items they may check out at one time. Patrons must return all items to the Circulation Desk or the library book drop. Items returned after closing time will be checked in the next day the library is open. Items must be physically returned to the library to be renewed. Renewals cannot be completed by phone.
Loan Periods
The standard loan period for students, faculty and staff is two weeks. New materials can only be checked out if previously checked out materials have been returned.
Renewals
Materials may be renewed unless one of the following conditions apply:
- the item has been recalled by the library;
- a hold has been placed on the item:
- the patron has delinquent fines
Overdue Charges
The late return fine is $.25 per day for general circulating materials. Overdue fines may be paid at the Circulation Desk. Students must pay fines before additional books are checked out.
Lost Books
If a patron loses any library materials, the patron will be charged the cost of replacing the item plus an additional $10.00 processing fee.
