Purpose
The Alumni Hall of Fame is designed to honor distinguished Alcorn State University (ASU) alumni and community leaders whose character and accomplishments exemplify outstanding achievement in the field of agriculture, family and consumer sciences, industrial technology, or related community affiliation, annually. This prestigious award honors individuals who are/were visionary leaders and inspirational, who have made significant contributions in their field of specialization or service to the community. They have demonstrated university spirit, professionalism, and leadership characteristics. The Alumni Hall of Fame was launched in 2015 with its inaugural inductees being honored on August 19, 2016, in Jackson, MS. Honorees will be inducted during an Awards Luncheon on Saturday, August 16, 2025. Nomination Process
OUTSTANDING ALUMNI NOMINEE:
To be considered an applicant for the Outstanding Alumni:
- Must have graduated from Alcorn State University with a degree in the field of agriculture, family and consumer sciences or industrial technology.
- Must be either retired from paid or full-time employment in their area of specialty and at least 55 years of age or older.
- Nominations can be made posthumously.
- Must have contributed $750 to the ASUNAA or ASU Alumni Foundation over the last three years.
- Must have been active in their area of specialty for a minimum of 15 years.
- Must have made outstanding contributions to the practice of professional education, research, community-based outreach/service, educational leadership, technical support and promotion of the university on a local, regional, state, national or international level.
- Must exemplify high professional standards, good citizenship and acceptable ethical conduct and character.
- Individuals cannot nominate themselves.
FRIEND OF AGRICULTURE AWARD (Community):
To be considered for the Friend of Agriculture award:
- May or may not be a graduate of Alcorn State University
Must be a friend of Alcorn State University or ASU College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences. - Must be well known in their field of expertise and recognized as a leader.
- Must be an innovator and trendsetter in their respective field of endeavor in support of Alcorn.
- Must have had a direct and significant positive impact on ASU or College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences. The evidence of this impact must be chronicled in the nomination form.
- Must exemplify high professional standards, good citizenship and acceptable ethical conduct and character.
- Must have been active in their area of specialty for a minimum of 10 years.
- Individuals cannot nominate themselves.
GUIDELINES
- All nominations must be submitted on the official Alumni Hall of Fame application.
- All application packets must be complete and accurate to be considered for nomination.
- Application packets must be submitted to the address below by the due date for the candidate to be considered for induction during a designated induction year.
- Applications may be emailed to [email protected] by the May 18, 2026 (must be a complete packet).
- All nominations submitted must include accurate information including current addresses and contact information for the nominee or family member of deceased nominee.
- A nomination may be resubmitted in subsequent years.
Term of Nomination:
Nominees are selected each year from the field of agriculture, family and consumer sciences, industrial technology, or the community. An eligible nominee not selected shall remain eligible for induction for two years following the initial nomination. After two years a person may be re-nominated. The nominator may update the nominee’s profile at any time prior to the next nomination cycle.
Term of Induction:
An accepted nominee to the Alumni Hall of Fame will become a permanent member. However, should an inductee’s character, or good standing be called into question, the selection committee reserves the right to conduct an inquiry and take necessary subsequent action.
A complete application packet should include:
- The nomination application
- Three letters of recommendations with one from the nominator, two from supporters (e.g. local alumni chapter President, member, former colleague etc.) who can validate or substantiate information related to the nominee’s professional career, character, and contribution to the field of education, research, community or other entities. The nominee must be active in the national alumni association and a local chapter.
- A head shot photograph that can be professionally reproduced should be submitted with the application or emailed to Michael Colston at [email protected].
- Other supporting materials can be submitted such as newspaper articles, historical records, etc. but should not exceed 7 pages. (Resumes are not acceptable in lieu of application or supporting information).
Evaluation Process:
An external evaluation committee will review all application packets.
Timeline:
Deadline for submission is May 18, 2026. All mailed packets must be postmarked by May 18, 2026 for consideration.
