The Alcorn State University College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences offers the National Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) Scholars Scholarship Program. This program aims to support the recruitment, engagement, retention, mentoring, and training of undergraduate students pursuing degrees in food and agricultural sciences. It is designed to encourage outstanding students from 1890 institutions to complete their baccalaureate degrees, contributing to a skilled workforce in the food and agricultural systems sector.

The scholarship provides up to $10,000 per academic year (or up to $5,000 per semester) to help cover student expenses, including tuition, housing, and living costs. This funding is made possible by the United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service. Annual awards are contingent upon the student’s continued successful academic performance.

To be eligible for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be accepted for admission to Alcorn State University.
  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Achieve a minimum ACT score of 20 or a minimum SAT score of 1020.

Additionally, applicants must demonstrate leadership abilities, a commitment to community service, and express a desire to major in one of the following fields:

  • Agricultural Science (any concentration)
  • Agribusiness Management
  • Agricultural Economics
  • Food, Nutrition, and Community Health Sciences
  • Human Development and Family Science
  • Applied Science (Geospatial Engineering Technology only)
