The Acquisitions Department of the J.D. Boyd Library is responsible for acquiring materials which have been selected for addition to the library collection. The department purchases library materials in all formats, including books, periodicals, serials, videos, films, microforms, computer files and electronic resources.

The department works closely with other academic departments, librarians, the Library Advisory Council (LAC) and other faculty to build the library's collection in support of the teaching, research and service missions of the university.

Recommendations for the purchase of materials may be submitted in the following ways: in person, campus mail or e-mail.

  • In person: If you are in the library, you may give the requests to the acquisitions librarian, the reference librarian on duty or to a member of the circulation staff.
  • Campus mail: Send a completed “Recommended for Library” form (available from the acquisitions department) or initialed Choice cards to the acquisitions librarian.

The mission of the Acquisitions Department is to build, develop, organize, preserve, and maintain a quality collection of library materials that will meet the planned instructional, research and public service needs of the University.


The Acquisitions Department is located on the library’s first floor, in the Technical Services area.

Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
